Whole Family Team (MHDA) and Building Strong Foundations Team (CFH)
Two exciting new projects have been funded for service provision on the Central Coast - The Whole Family Team (WFT) and the Building Strong Foundations for Aboriginal Children, Families and Communities (BSF). These projects are looking to service families of the Coast and, in particular to provide a service to Aboriginal children and the families to which they belong.
To assist these projects; new, exciting and challenging positions for Aboriginal Health Workers (AHW) have become available. The WFT Project requires one AHW whilst the BSF requires three AHWs.
The Whole Family Team Aboriginal Health Worker will work in partnership with Whole Family Team Workers (Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Professionals) and in consultation with Aboriginal Families and the Aboriginal community of the Gosford and Wyong LGAs to provide positive interventions to families where there are child protection concerns as well as parental mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues that are adversely impacting on the children within the families. The WFT is committed to providing case management services, family interventions, parenting skills programs as well as group programs (therapeutic & diversional). Treatment is provided in the context of the consistent family members residing together through an outreach service to the homes of families as well as group programs on the KTS-WFT site. Access to drug and alcohol services/interventions and mental health services/interventions will be facilitated and supported as appropriate.
The Building Strong Foundations Aboriginal Health Workers will work in partnership with Child and Family Health Nurses and Aboriginal families to promote infant and child physical, emotional and social health through assessment, consultation, case management, group work, education, supportive counselling and referral as required in accordance with the legal and ethical requirements of the NSW Health policies. The team will look to engage and support Aboriginal families to promote parenting, normal growth and development of children 0-5 years and implement culturally appropriate strategies to promote good health care outcomes for infants and children eg breastfeeding, smoking cessation, routine health checks etc. with particular emphasis on strengthening community action and building healthy environments. The service will provide a joint home visiting service to all new parents and their families with the Child and Family Health Nurse and provide assertive follow up to families with complex needs consistent with the Supporting Families Early Policy (NSW Health).

The Department of Respiratory Medicine at Gosford Hospital is currently establishing a new diagnostic facility for the purpose of investigating and managing sleep disorders and a position exists for a suitably qualified and experienced individual to fill a temporary part-time Sleep Technologist position. The purpose of this position is to provide patient set-up and scoring for portable home based sleep studies, along with quality assurance and general maintenance for the Sleep Investigation Unit. Flexibility of duties and working hours will be required. Good communication skills are essential. A high priority is placed on excellence with best practice and ongoing development and improvement.

VISITING MEDICAL OFFICER

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Endocrinology, Central Coast Health Service, Northern Sydney Central Coast Health.
Selection Criteria:
ESSENTIAL
1. Medical practitioner registered or able to be registered in NSW
2. Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and / or other specialist recognition. Applicants expecting to be awarded their fellowship within four months may be considered. If successful, the applicant will not be eligible to commence their appointment until the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.
3. Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Endocrinology and Diabetes Management
4. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills
5. Demonstrated ability to lead and work within a multidisciplinary team environment
6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and research as relevant to the position
7. Demonstrated interest in quality improvement methodologies
